Nutritional Profile – Orange-Glazed Chicken with Cilantro-Lime Basmati Rice – 💪
🍗 Chicken — 150g
Chicken is the main source of protein in this recipe: with 35.85 g of protein per serving, it alone covers about 70% of an active adult’s daily protein needs. It also provides 15.3 g of fat, including 4.8 g of saturated fat, which should be taken into account as part of a balanced diet. It is therefore a meat that is both filling and complete in terms of essential amino acids. To limit fat intake, you can remove the skin before eating.
🍚 Basmati rice (dry) — 75g
Basmati rice is the dish’s main source of carbohydrates, providing 58.5 g of complex carbohydrates per serving from 75 g of dry rice. Its glycemic index is lower than that of regular white rice, which promotes a gradual release of energy. In addition, it provides 5.55g of plant-based protein, a significant amount for a starchy food. However, its fiber content remains modest (0.75g per serving), which is typical of refined white rice.
🍊 Orange juice — 60 g
Orange juice provides 6.66 g of natural carbohydrates per serving, primarily in the form of simple sugars (fructose, glucose), and contributes to the sweet-and-tart flavors characteristic of the ice cream sauce. This is why it plays an important role in the flavor profile despite its relatively low weight. Its vitamin C content (about 20 mg per 60 g) is a significant nutritional benefit, although some of it is lost during cooking. Its caloric contribution remains limited to 30.6 kcal per serving.
🍯 Honey — 15 g
Honey provides 45.9 kcal and 11.4 g of simple carbohydrates per serving, playing a key role in the sauce’s glossy, smooth texture. It is a natural sweetener, but its sugars are almost exclusively fast-acting sugars (fructose + glucose), and its glycemic impact is comparable to that of white sugar in equal amounts. Furthermore, the amount used (15 g per serving) remains reasonable in the context of the dish as a whole.
🥢 Soy sauce — 15 g
Soy sauce is the main source of salt in this dish: 2.10 g per serving, which is equivalent to 84% of the recommended daily intake of 2.5 g. This is the ingredient to focus on first if you’re looking for a lower-sodium version. It also contributes to the characteristic umami flavor of the glazed sauce and provides 1.22 g of plant-based protein as well as 0.12 g of fiber, all with a low calorie density (8.4 kcal per serving).
Nutritional Profile: A dish high in protein (43 g per serving), moderate in fat, with sodium (soy sauce) and simple sugars (honey and orange juice) to watch out for. Good protein profile for a complete meal.
