Strength training or cardio, which one to choose to lose weight

You want to optimize your weight loss by working out, but you're wondering if weight training or cardio is the best method?

Reading and hearing information from all over the Internet makes it difficult to know what to choose.

We will answer this question together in this article.

Exercises to burn calories.

Weight training is very interesting because it allows you to burn calories not only during the effort, but also after the physical activity, thanks to the afterburner effect.

This is because muscle weighs more than fat and requires more energy to function, resulting in an increased resting metabolism.

By gaining muscle mass, your body will become more energy hungry, which will contribute to fat loss, the main goal of weight loss.

In addition, weight training allows you to tone your muscles and sculpt your body, which is a significant plus for feeling good about yourself.

You don't need to lift weights at first, nor do you need to develop massive muscles to see results, you can already train at bodyweight for the first few goals.

Here are some examples of effective exercises to get you started:

  • Squats to work the thighs and buttocks
  • Pull-ups to strengthen the back and biceps
  • Abdominals and crunches to strengthen the abdominal muscles
  • Lunges to strengthen thighs and buttocks
  • Dips for the triceps
  • Push-ups for triceps and pectorals

What is the point of cardio?

Cardio, on the other hand, is a great way to burn energy during exercise. Activities lasting 45 to 60 minutes, such as running, swimming, cycling or rowing, allow you to use your heart and breathing muscles, and therefore burn energy efficiently.

In addition, cardio is often easier to integrate into one's daily life, as it can be practiced outside or at home, solo or in a group.

By practicing only cardio, the weight will generally drop more quickly than with weight training, if we are talking only about kg.

Should we focus on cardio?

No. In fact, it's a good idea to combine the two types of workouts for lasting results and a more harmonious body.

You will watch your body evolve, tone up, and build muscle while becoming slimmer. The weight will come down more slowly, you will see your body transform.

Ideally, you should practice at least 3 - 4 times a week. After only 3 months, you will notice a clear evolution.

Remember to leave a day of rest between sessions, especially if you are just starting out, to give your body and muscles time to recover.

Which diet to lose weight?

Finally, always keep in mind that to lose weight, diet also plays a key role.

It is therefore important to adopt a balanced diet, otherwise you may be disappointed with the results.

Finally, establishing a balanced weekly menu is essential for long-term weight loss.

It's up to you!
